Flybe expand at Birmingham

Flybe, the UK regional airline, have announced a range of new routes from Birmingham this summer:

 - Florence   6x weekly
 - Cologne   daily
 - Toulouse   6x weekly
 - Alicante   5x weekly
 - Bordeaux   4x weekly
 - Palma    4x weekly
 - Porto    4x weekly

To help operate these, two new Embraer 175's are being based at BHX making it Flybe's largest base. They are also increasing frequency to Hanover, Milan and Stuttgart. The flights commence on 10th April.

Some of these routes surprise me (Florence and Porto?!). Toulouse is a wise choice as bmi regional could have worked if they were consistently cheap, while Cologne seems logical with a good biz/tourist mix, as does Bordeaux.  As for the Spanish routes, load factors on competing airlines often reach 90% and above so clearly there is room for Flybe here.
